SiteJazzer Feature Updates – November

November was a festive season for our team. We had a good 5 day long weekend for Diwali. In, December we all are getting ready for our Christmas celebration. So, before I get into the new developments in November I would like to wish all of you happy holiday season.

November month was purely a focus on HTML5 for our development team. The main challenge was to get 3D jazzers such as 3D Cube and 3d Flip book in HTML5. But, I can proudly say that with such an enthusiastic development team nothing can stop us from achieving the results. Now, all the jazzers in SiteJazzer are HTML5 supported. Simply click on “Publish” option to get output in both Flash and HTML5. Isn’t this something unique!

We have been receiving lot of inputs from our users on various jazzers and few very good ideas on new jazzers as well. This month was the first time we released a new Jazzer since the time of launch – 3D Carousel. This jazzer helps to present the product portfolios, categories, tips, personalities and other such nuggets of information in a 3D Carousel format. This jazzer too can be published in Flash and HTML5 format.

Microsoft released IE9 beta in early November. Immediately after the release we found that there was an issue related to saving and publishing jazzer in IE9 beta browser. There was a temporary solution of compatibility mode suggested by our engineering team. However, now all jazzers work perfectly fine on IE9 beta as well!

Those were the three major highlights of SiteJazzer for the month of November. Everyone is curious of what would be next in SiteJazzer. Well, we have something very different coming up by end of December. Stay tuned and keep checking your SiteJazzer account for the new updates!

Are you a Worrywart Designer?

Have I chosen the right color scheme? Are the elements balancing the layout? I wonder if I would get enough visitors. Will the site have problems while loading?

Oops! All this and much more runs into our minds while designing. This is what I call, the worrywart phenomenon! I mean, if I have to design web pages with a bunch of designers constantly worrying about every little thing on the webpage, then at times, you lose the flavor of designing….

Too much to worry about?

Sometimes, while trying to be perfect, we often forget that we are supposed to enjoy the process. All the coding and designing may sap our energy isn’t it? At times like these, I prefer to design without any fear. Exploring things and experimenting is the key.

How You Can Explore…Without Worrying!
You need to break free from the traditional style. We all love Flash based websites, but instead of making the entire site Flash-heavy, you can try using it in select areas of the site. Display your product portfolio through a Flash based widget. Keep the rest of it simple. This will help you get more attention on areas you wish to highlight. Besides, it won’t take much time to load. Simple, isn’t it?

Of course, I do not claim that this is the only solution. Sometimes, we need to try in order to find out whether it results into a success or failure. This is the time, when we need to stop worrying….and start designing!

Let’s be interactive without all the worrying!

Jazzing Up Websites…On Your Own

One of the most excruciating things about web designing is the amount of time spent coordinating with designers or developers. The other day, I came across two budding entrepreneurs who were worried and concerned about making their website ‘work’ for them in the true sense.  Their primary concern was getting a professional look for the website without having to go to a web designer. Being a medium-sized business outfit, neither of them wished to employ a full-sized team or hire an agency for the task.

It’s never been easy for a business owner to start a new venture while using his/her monetary resources cautiously. Website designing is one of the most important phases in starting a new web business. After all, a website represents the business online. Having a well-planned site design is important to get visitors on your site in order to convert them to into customers.

To make your website work for you, it needs to be designed with the right balance of graphics and animations or interactions, which can be a very time consuming task. What has been observed is that people either opt for a staid design due to monetary constraints or hire a professional design agency which involves lot of time and money. As mentioned earlier, this is exactly the case the entrepreneurs wanted to avoid.

One needs to create curiosity and action among visitors to convert them to customers. Hence, jazzing up a website is crucial. In today’s ever-changing world, it is even more important to keep your website content and design fresh by changing them frequently with new updates and offers. In such a scenario, going to professional agencies each time is not a viable option.

The good news is that jazzing up your website has become easy and less expensive in today’s times! You can save up on both these resources by opting for do-it-yourself Jazzers rather than going to a professional. Jazzing up your website on your own will then turn into an exhilarating task for you!. It will also help you capture the attention of your visitors and turn them into potential customers since you, as a website owner would know the pulse of the audience

Adding Jazzers also makes your website organized and helps its visitors in selecting topics of their interest without having to go through the entire ‘mumble jumble’! It helps you segregate your website into parts and in turn makes it simpler for users to navigate through your website.

If you are looking out to give a professional touch at minimum cost, it’s time you don up your website with some super-exciting Jazzers!

Enhacing Silverlight while Embracing HTML5 – Microsoft’s New Direction?

Last week’s Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC) seems to suggest an enhanced level of Microsoft commitment to HTML5 technology, and a much lower emphasis on Silverlight.

In addition to supporting Silverlight, Microsoft seems to be acknowledging HTML as the truly cross-platform development solution for engaging interactive applications.

Microsoft’s IE 9 comes closest to supporting HTML5 out of all releases till now. ”HTML5 enables you to make engaging and interactive sites. With full hardware acceleration of the browser, HTML5 pages feel and run like an app or a game,” said IE chief Dean Hachamovitch during the opening PDC keynote; according to a recent article by Mary Jo Foley on ZDNet.

That is why we were so excited about testing SiteJazzer on IE9 Beta, and here is what our engineers found:

We have checked the SiteJazzer application on IE 9 Beta. The only thing that gets blocked is the ‘Save’ functionality. To solve this issue immediately, user simply needs to click the ‘Compatibility View’ button in the browser window. This has to be done only once and whole SiteJazzer application works perfectly fine. All other functions such as Preview, Publish, Share, Download and Delete work fine on IE9 beta after click on compatibility view button.

We hope that by the time IE9 reaches the masses, this simple workaround will be un-necessary.

SiteJazzer Desktop Released!

There was an interesting thought shared by Vikas Joshi in one of his previous blog posts where he mentioned about the need for a desktop version of a content creation tool. There has been a long running debate about web applications replacing desktop software applications. Some functions are better suited to web applications where applications related to security concerns and legacy systems will still be preferred as desktop software’s.

According to me, Web is good for connecting and sharing information, thus the name. But, if one wants to just get something done fast without worrying about “sharing” or “connecting,” desktop software is what is preferred by users.

Should web-based content creation tools also have a desktop installation option?

SiteJazzer lets you bring your web sites alive with interactivity. In doing so you don’t have to install anything on your computer. You simply get a SiteJazzer subscription, log in and start building a jazzer. Your entire content creation activity is online.

Contrast this will tools like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. These are software packages you install on your desktop (or laptop) and work away when you are ready. There is no need for internet.

Do you believe content creation tools should provide both online and desktop access options? Any thoughts or ideas?

SiteJazzer is now one month old!

SiteJazzer today is now one month old. SiteJazzer moved out of beta mode on August 10, 2010 and created waves in PR industry with more than 20,000+ headline views within two days of launch.

The complete launch process of SiteJazzer was an exciting experience for everyone in the team. The launch was not only for the product release but with a vibrant community with lot of active members contributing to various aspects of SiteJazzer right from features, jazzer specific queries to user segments and their usage. Within a month community has more than 200+ active topics being discussed on varied topics. Community has become a go to place for our customers to know the latest feature updates, ideas on how to use jazzers, and also to suggest new features for various jazzers.

I can proudly state that SiteJazzer is a product which is not being developed only by its engineers within the organization but it largely depends on its users who are constantly providing valuable inputs and new feature ideas. New features which are directly a result of such inputs are Facebook business page support, HTML5 support for jazzers to work on iPad and iPhone devices, Mac support etc.

SiteJazzer today has hundreds of users actively creating various jazzers which include business as well as individual users. I would like to share some exciting usages of the jazzer by these users . We found an interesting trend of jazzers being created by different types of users. Though most of the jazzers are being used, Business users preferred exploring Panning cards, 3D Cube Picture show, and banners where as individual users prefer 3D cube, flip book and panning cards. Below is a pie-chart which gives an overall idea of which jazzers are preferred over the others.

Various other well known publications and bloggers too featured SiteJazzer. SiteJazzer recently got mentioned in dBusinessWeek at Seattle – one of the well- known publications in US region. A real estate blogger described its usage experience of SiteJazzer on its blog which invited lot of enthusiasm among its user base as well.

Our marketing manager – Shivesh shares that more than 12000 users visited our product overview page and had a look at various SiteJazzers being offered. This in itself is a great achievement in the first month. He appends, after seeing the jazzers being created by our trial users we could not stop ourselves from creating the “Jazzers Galore” where we could showcase how different users are creating varied kind of jazzers beyond our imagination!

Looking at all these accomplishments within just a month of launch simply proves that SiteJazzer has a grand future ahead and all of this could not be possible without the entire the support we have received from our users.

With such an amazing first month it definitely calls for a party for all of us! Do look forward for some amazing gifts and offers coming our way in near future.
